The Immanuel Approach for Emotional Healing and for Life
In my experience, the most effective tool for healing emotional issues is the Immanuel Approach developed by Karl Lehman, MD, a Christian psychiatrist in the Chicago area. He has combined the latest brain science with his Christian faith. He says that he can prescribe medications for symptoms of anxiety and depression, teach coping strategies when life issues arise or connect them with the true Source of healing and love-Jesus and receive permanent healing and relief. This method resolves emotional issues with a measure of wholeness restored, but the end result is that blockages to your relationship with God are removed. As blockages of hurt are removed it evolves to the Immanuel lifestyle which as you go through the day you are more aware of God’s living presence with you. This is not a one session cure. Once you know the principles you can grab a friend and practice with each other.
An example of a session is on one of Dr. Lehman’s DVD’s. A lady grew up with a chronically depressed mother. In the session, she first connected with a living interactive Jesus. Then she recalled a memory in the kitchen with her mother. She was a young girl. She was wanting her mother’s love and attention, but her mother was at the sink and unavailable to her. She continued to crave this attention. Dr. Lehman encouraged her to go to Jesus for this need since she could sense and see his presence with her in the kitchen. Finally, she gives up her desire for her mother to meet this need and turns to Jesus. She is tearful as she is able to feel Jesus comforting her instead. Dr. Lehman is scientific about this approach. He will bring people back to see if there is lasting fruit. Several months later this woman spoke of how she always kept ice cream in the freezer. Since her session she noticed that she didn’t eat ice cream and wasn’t focused on making sure she always had some. She also lost weight! The lasting fruit was that she didn’t need ice cream for comfort anymore.
I have had counseling and am now a counselor. I have experienced much healing in my life from this method. I am using it on clients who are open to this with good results. Otherwise traditional talk therapy can be used in which clients tell the story of their life and receive attunement for difficulties from the past or current ones. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you can google the Immanuel Approach and get Dr. Lehman’s website that he has developed about this approach. He also has another website, www.kclehman.com with many articles to read.
